I had a mortgage loan on a 6 percent 15 year conventional. I initiated a loan with my local bank and they sold it to Citi. I was never late on my payment as I had automatic bill pay. I got into a situation financially and could not afford my monthly payment. The advice of the representative was to take my mortgage off of auto pay and go 15 days without a payment so they can "work with me." I did what the representative asked and took my mortgage off of auto pay. I called back to Citi when the payment was 15 days late and the representative explained "our advice is to do a "deed in lieu of foreclosure." How interesting, never one month late and then they advised to do a deed in a lieu of foreclosure. I have about 60k in equity on my home so it would make sense that they would want the title so they could make the profit. I then switched to a different lender and refinanced my loan at 3 percent interest and thus saved myself 500 dollars a month. I requested my 2500 equity check to be sent and now have waited a month since the loan closed with Citi and have not received it. Buyers/homeowners/refinancers beware of Citi. Their business practices are not above the table and their way of doing business is below par.

We refinanced our home for the soul purpose of removing our ex wife's name off of the mortgage. The ex showed up at the closing and signed the quit claim deed. You can imagine the horror when the ex's name appears next to mine on the check. After 2 days of calling the rep stated i had to provide a copy of the quit claim deed and divorce decree(which was done at closing). The rep located it after some difficulty and transferred me the the bi-saver department. I now have to write a letter to get the withdrawal they took against the old note. The left really doesn't know what the right is doing and now it will be another month before this mess is sorted out. There really good up to the point they have your money but service after the sale flat out sucks. Really where is the common sense? I'm inclined to run the gambit with a smaller company, because these jokers are clueless

I cannot begin to say how frustrated I am with the level of service at CitiMortgage. In the last 3 days, I made a total of 15 phone calls, and spent more time on hold than I did in my entire life combined.

Customer service's first "line of defense" does not speak English to the point where they can understand my issue.

Supervisors within customer service only follow "the book", which is to pass the buck. I got bumped from one department to another 6 times, before someone was half-knowledgeable to answer my questions.

Mind you, I have been their customer for 6 years. I was never late on a payment in my life, I have brought them business, and this is how a good solid customer is treated...

I am making a special effort to take my mortgage elsewhere, even though it will cost me - just to not be with CitiMortgage.

BEWARE: Citi's customer service and expertise = 0!
Citi Mortgage "Bad Faith Estimates"

I wish I would have read these reviews prior to spending time and money with Citibank. The make promises "Good Faith Estimates" only to waist time, money so you will agree to pay a higher than quoted rates. Bait and switch. The banks are not accountable for their poor customer service and dishonorable business practices. The government needs to quite bailing them out and let them fail if they cannot compete.
Totally inept and dishonest

My daughter and I have experienced some of the same things others have written about. Reassurances that don't pan out, people who contradict each other, etc. They failed to charge enough for my property taxes so I was hit with a huge increase in payment until it was caught up. It is now caught up and my tax rate went way down as I qualified for a senior discount, but they said they can't reduce it until their re-analysis in 6 Months! So I have to assume they get interest on the money that I don't owe them!

Also have had people give mis-information on how things might be handled. One person said one thing only to have another say the opposite the next day. I was told I could request a modification of monthly payment with no fuss, only to learn that income, all monthly expenses, etc. had to be submitted in order that they MIGHT evaluate lowering the payment. Just so much HUMBUG!

After trying to refinance through citimortgage which holds my original mortgage, I went to all the documentary process taking about 60 days on the last day they needed more of the same and asked if I wished to extended the loan application deadline with fees. I said no.no.no. Expect me to close all my accounts with Citi.
Worked fine for me

I know most people come here to vent only when they have a problem, but I've had a few mortgages with Citimortgage and the latest refinance with them was a couple months ago. The process was smooth and the refi was done in about 3 weeks. As with any loan these days they will ask for quite a lot of support, but if anything they asked for less than others have. Anyone expecting to close a loan these days without providing a lot of supporting documentation will be in for a surprise.
I've closed a few loans and refi's over the last 3 years and this one was by far the easiest. All mortgage processes are a pain these days, but this was by far the least painful. They stuck to the rate and costs, closed it quickly, so really can't complain.
Absolutely horrible experience

We tried to refi last year, and because of Citimortgage's incompetence, it took over 6 months. Oh, correction- it didn't take 6 months because the refi fell through because it took so long! It was the most ridiculous experience I have been through. I think the 4th or 5th officer we worked with actually seemed to try to help, but by then it was too late. We wasted hours and hours of time and energy with them.
BAD Customer Service - Don't refinance

we are currently refinancing with Citi who hold our existing mortgage and 4 other properties. We have never been late and they declined my refinance due to insufficient income except that they used a business loss carryover from a closed business in 2009. They told me to talk to my loan officer because I can't talk to the UW, except my loan officer - Adina Williams - quit. So my file has no one looking at it. I have been calling since July 19th and now it's August 1st. I have tried to get someone to work with me and now they have directed me to Ajay Sehgal her previous manager. Will see if they even contact me. Its so stupid, my husband works for the US government so income is not a problem.
