articles.jpgIf you’re falling behind on your mortgage payments and need an alternative to walking away or foreclosure, you might want to consider writing your mortgage lender a Hardship Letter.  A Hardship letter is the first step in seriously notifying your mortgage lender to consider working out an alternative payment play for your mortgage.

Writing a mortgage hardship letter is the first step in telling your lender that you want to stay in your home, but are having a hard time making mortgage payments.

The purpose of a mortgage hardship letter isn’t to complain, but to be honest and present your case to your mortgage lender. 

The mortgage hardship letter should detail why you fell behind on your payments and show your ambition to continue making mortgage payments.

Be Patient With Your Mortgage Hardship Letter

When writing the hardship letter to your mortgage company, bear in mind the economic foreclosure crisis that has been spreading.  Due to these issues, many mortgage lenders are extremely backlogged and have a hard time quickly replying to your mortgage hardship letter.  When you do write a hardship letter, keep it short, sweet, and right to the point and under two pages.

The Hardship letter is just one piece of the problem if you are behind on your mortgage.  Always be sure to take legal advice before making any serious financial decision to your lender.
