I used the Lending Tree service, they did not deliver 4 quotes so there never really was a competition. They did find one mortgage company that would work for me... American Mortgage Service Company... The first few weeks went great, we got approved, we put in an offer and we had won. We bought a HUD home, they are more challenging to close, anyone thats ever done one has a horror story I'm sure. You have deadlines to get paperwork in or you lose your bid and the home with it. Our realtor Linda was amazing, she had dealt with a few of these and seemed to know her way around. Ron, our mortgage rep was also excellent, even if his company wasn't. The underwriters at AMSCO screwed up, approving the wrong paperwork and not catching it until 1 day before close. The type of mortgage we needed they couldn't even sell! Our rate deadline was going to expire and I was told another $400 would be needed to lock it in. Ron was distraught, he came out and met me, told me what happened, the man was almost in tears. Regardless, I asked why I was being told to pay for the companies mistake... He advised me to call his manager and work it out. So I did, when I first called he was pompous and talked to me like I was supposed to be the mortgage expert. I lost my cool and informed him that I have a lawyer I keep on retainer and that he thought I had a case to sue AMSCO for E

It took THREE MONTHS and $400.00 that was supposed to be refundable but they ripped off (they won't even respond to my e-mails) to get denied on a re-fi. Laurie Ho was my agent. She deceived me and was very bad at returning calls and communication in general. Once they get your money, they don't care. AVOID AVOID AVOID!!!
Use a local lender

I should have used a local lender with the possibility of face-to-face problem solving.

The biggest financial mistake I made in the past several years was to use Lending Tree for a recent house purchase. The lender they hooked me up with (Shore Mortgage) was eagerly responsive and cooperative until they had me on the hook and closing time approached. Then the trouble started. Routine calls were ignored. They delayed delivery of the disclosure statement and when it arrived, it included over $4500 of points-related charges for a loan that was supposed to have no points. Oops -- they forgot to lock the rate the day we agreed on. They lied repeatedly about what had happened and how they were fixing the problem. Five and a half hour closing because they could/would not do the paperwork correctly. The title people said that this was typical behavior from them.

On May 27th I went on line and used LENDINGTREE as a source of looking for a mortgage. On the morning of 5/29, two days later, I had 300 SPAM emails from everyone you can think of.... credit cards, auto loans, cash payday loans, health insurance, Free Grants,New Dell computer for FREE, meet large women online, affordable health insurance and the best one...Top Video Game Schools online! Earn a Degree!... Well today is June 3rd at 3pm and so far I have received a total of 700 SPAM emails.

I contacted LENDINGTREE, spoke to a customer service rep and they told me the only thing they could do was to change the email, so I gave them an email I haven't used in 3 years for this very same reason. I explained my situation to him, asked that a manager call me back by 5pm with a soultion as to how this can be stopped. Low and behold at 1pm a manager actually called me and says the following " we don't sell or give your email to anyone", it must have been done by the credit reporting agencys. As of 1pm yesterday my quest to make the world aware of exactly what you get when you deal with LENDINGTREE began. The internet is a wonderful thing, LENDINGTREE can use it to solicit us, and I can use YOUTUBE and FACEBOOK and all the review sites to make the world aware that if you apply thru LENDINGTREE you may as well change your email address before you even give it to them. This is a deceptive company (reviews here aren't so hot) that you should consider staying away from, unless of course you like SPAM emails!

I'm trying to do a refi on my townhome. When I went to Lending Tree, I got 2 offers, one from Americash and one from Metro Lending Services. Both quotes were better than what I was getting from the banks. I've no experiences dealing with these types of "direct" lenders and was wondering if I could get some advice from you guys. Should I stick to the known banks and pay the higher rate, or should I got with these people?

I did some research on the Internet and the reviews are split between really really bad and very positive. I'm confused.

Thanks for your help!

I have to say that Lendingtree's commercials and advertisements must have done something. When I needed a loan, they were the first lender to come to my mind.

After seeing LendingTree commercials several more and more, my wife and I decided to give them a try with our new auto purchase as we didn't want to do the financing through the local dealership. After our past experience with Honda, we thought we would find a better rate outside of the dealership. We ended up going through several banks as well as our credit union however we couldn't get the rate we needed to afford the car.

Lendingtree.com has you submit your information on their website and they are suppose to then they go out and find banks that will loan you approve your loan/credit and have them contact you with the best rate. According to their commercials LendingTree can get you up to four different offers based on your credit history.

My wife and I have excellent credit, little credit card debt, we pay our bills and our mortgage on time so I was anticipating to get at least 4 offers. Turns out, I checked myemail the next day and only had one!

The rate ended up being a little better so we decided to go for out. Lending Tree's website states that they will contact you within 24 hours if you accept an offer. After 3 days, there was still no call. This slightly bothered us as the dealership only gave us a short window of time to bring in our outside financing for the price they were going to give us on the car.

Since we hadn't heard back from the banke we decided to contact Lending Tree and let them know that know one had contacted us. They went ahead and followed up for us; but by the time we heard back they told us that it would take several days. By the end of the day we then heard directly from the lender. In order for us to get the price on the car, we ended up going with the dealer's financing program which was just slightly higher than what Lending Tree had offered.

Had we received the fast reply from the Lending Tree lender,, we definitely would have gone ahead with their financer. Unfortunately, they never replied fast enough to meet our needs.

What was truly disappointing for us is that the commercials advertise that they will sending you up to 4 offers with banks competeting for the lowest rate. This wasn't the case. The application process at Lending Tree also seemed a bit lengthy and we needed to disclose a lot of personal info. Although we felt our information was secure, the process seemed a bit unnecessary.

Had their response time been much quicker, I think we would have ended up financing through Lending Tree. However, we still don't know if it was lending tree or the financing bank that dropped the ball. Even though we didn't use their service, I could tell that they mean business. Once we submitted our info, they took care of most of the work; however, it was a bit slow for our needs.

I submitted online for LendingTree and received 3 offers within a few days; however, most of them were basically worthless. The rates their partners provided were ridiculous. I called them up and they said that if I had better credit I would receive better offers.
